- March 12, 2025
The HIMSS 2025 Global Conference & Exhibition pulled together leaders, innovators, & healthcare enthusiasts from around the globe to Las Vegas, creating a dynamic hub of discussions and exchange of ideas. The city’s vibrant energy mirrored the event’s purpose as enthusiasts delved into the healthcare industry’s ever-evolving horizons.
As we bore witness to this ‘future of health’ being forged on the ground, the stock of valuable insights was endless. Here are our key takeaways from HIMSS 2025.
Our Key Takeaways from @HIMSS 2025.
AI is the Present: There were times when talks around artificial intelligence seemed like a sci-fi movie, but HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition showcased that technology has made inroads to the most vital parts of our lives more than ever. With inventions in AI-powered transcribing, virtual health assistants, AI-powered diagnostics, the path leading to digital health transformation is certain. Discussions with executives from top pharma companies, and the talk sessions around AI, painted an exciting but factual picture.
The healthcare industry has witnessed exponential application of AI to human health, and its interoperability is only going to increase in the times to come. However, the level of AI applicability is still highly dependent and limited by human capacity to implement it. At HIMSS, we witnessed AI innovations in healthcare that are breaking conventional barriers, and we are thrilled to see where our contributions fall.
While the discussions were on the rise, distinguished speakers at the conference painted a very realistic picture of what is being achieved in AI in 2025 and beyond.
Zafar Chaudhary, MD, Senior VP and Chief Digital AI & Information officer of Seattle Children’s quotes “I truly don’t believe that in 2025 we’re any safer than we were in 2024.”
Data Privacy: Healthcare globally deals with the most sensitive data and records. As talks around automation & cloud are on the rise, so are the concerns around data privacy and cyber-security. With progress in AI and technology advancing, the cyber-criminals and dark web are also becoming stronger.
HIPAA compliance, data privacy bills, and other forms of ensuring safety need to undergo a constant upgrade. Inculcating a proactive approach to threat detection, and identifying possible security loopholes, has to be the way ahead.
Compliance and security has to be dealt with utmost importance and our defenses need to be one-step ahead than the threats.
“We need to be OK with not worrying about ROI. We’re not going to have ROI right away “ said Crystal Broj, Chief Digital Transformation Officer at MUSC Health. The growth in emerging technologies is surely exponential, and everyone wants to be the first in the industry for a maximized ROI. However, achieving speed and fast returns comes at a price every healthcare player must bear in mind.
- AI & ML: Leveraging AL/ML to improve healthcare delivery systems, improve operational efficiency, and powering better diagnostics
- Cyber-security: Creating pro-active defense strategies to protect healthcare infrastructure and looming cyber threats
- Digital Health Transformation: Importance of Electronic Medical Records and Next-gen systems for better patient care
